Olivier Guillon becomes CEO of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology

Alumnus of the Darmstadt Institute of Materials Science appointed head of the largest public institution for applied research and development in Luxembourg.

Prof. Dr. Olivier Guillon has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). Guillon completed his habilitation at TU Darmstadt in 2012 after five years as head of an Emmy Noether group at the Institute of Materials Science. Prior to this, from 2004 to 2006, he had already worked as a postdoc in the research group Non-metallic Inorganic Materials .

Oliver Guillon will take up the position on 01.09.2025. He is currently Director of the Institute of Energy Materials and Devices at Forschungszentrum Jülich and Professor at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen. In their statement, LIST describe Professor Guillon to have “recognized expertise in the field of energy materials, combining scientific excellence with a keen sense of industrial applications.”

Guillon studied materials science at the École des Mines d'Alès and received his doctorate from the Université de Franche-Comté in 2003. Further stages of his scientific career have taken him to the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (research and teaching assistant, 2003 – 2004), the University of Washington (postdoc, 2006), the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena (Professor of Mechanics of Functional Materials, 2011 – 2014), the Tokyo Institute of Technology (visiting professorship 2013 & 2015), the University of Grenoble Alpes & CEA (visiting professorship 2021), and the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei (honorary professorship 2023).
