The Office for Student Affairs of the Institute for Materials Science (Department 11, Materials- and Geosciences) is responsible for all examination-related matters within the B.Sc. Materialwissenschaft and the M.Sc. Materials Science (including all related Double Degree and exchange programmes).

Certificates and Transcripts of Records for these degree programmes are exclusively issued by our Office for Student Affairs.

The General Examination Regulations (Allgemeine Prüfungsbestimmungen, APB) (opens in new tab) are binding for all students of TU Darmstadt. Additional regulations for each degree programme are specified in the respective “Study Regulations” (Studienordnung). These are to be found in our Downlaod section .

Fundamental information on examinations (e.g. dates, de-/registration, retries, supplementary oral exams) are available in the FAQ of the TU Darmstadt Student Service: TUCaN FAQ

Re-examinations

Please note the contents of §31 of the General Exam Regulations of TU Darmstadt (APB) and “Referral to § 31 (1-3)” of the Implementation Regulations for both Bachelor and Master courses.

According to these, you are urgently advised to have a discussion with your mentor or professor after failing a first re-examination (“Fachprüfung”). Even if there is no obligation to have this consultation interview, you should take advantage of the counselling service at an early stage.

Please also note that the second re-examination of an exam, which is usually a written exam, may be taken as an oral exam if both the student and the professor(s) agree. However, should you fail again, no “Supplementary Oral Examination” (“Mündliche Ergänzungsprüfung”) can be repeated and the course of studies is terminated without degree.
