General Information
The university elections include both centralized and decentralized voting. The central part includes the election of new student members in the university assembly as well as in the student parliament.
Decentrally, new student members are elected in the respective departments in the faculty council (FBR) and as student representatives (FSR).
In our department, the faculty council and the student representatives are elected. The number of seats depends on the size of the faculty. This year there are 7 seats for student representatives of our faculty (FB 11) and three for the faculty council. Thereby we generally share the number of seats with the Fachschaft Geowissenschaften. Since the student body of materials science has more students than the student body of geoscience, the distribution is as follows (SoSe 2022):
Faculty Council
3 seats: 2 MaWis + 1 Geo
Three students, two research assistants, one scientific/technical assistant and seven professors sit on the faculty council. In addition, the equal opportunity commissioners are advisory members.
The student members of the faculty council are elected every summer, the others every other summer.
Student Representatives
7 seats: 4 MaWis + 3 Geos
The student representatives are the official representatives of the student body and must be consulted by committees such as the faculty council in decisions regarding courses of study. Furthermore, one of the student representatives is in charge of the meetings.
