FestBatt Data
A method platform for theory and data within the competence cluster for solid state batteries

Large storage capacities, short charging times and no flammable liquid electrolytes – the solid-state battery should enable safe electric mobility with long ranges in the future.

The aim of FestBatt is to acquire basic knowledge of solid state batteries and to understand their function in detail, to describe them scientifically and to develop functional prototypes. The competence cluster also lays the foundation for the establishment and sustainable further development of an internationally leading, competitive battery cell production in Germany. The focus of the competence cluster is on research into the materials required and the process technology necessary for commercialisation.

FestBatt consists of a total of five joint projects: three material and two method platforms. Further information can be found at https://festbatt.net/en/projects

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding the FestBatt competence cluster for a period of three years. The project is coordinated by the Justus Liebig University of Gießen (JLU).

Subproject D1 of the TU Darmstadt under the direction of

Prof. Dr. Albe and Dr. Jochen Rohrer:

The subproject of the Technische Universität Darmstadt provides atomistic modelling of the structure and thermodynamic properties of new or improvedsolid electrolytes using electron structure calculations within density functional theory, the prediction of kinetic parameters at influence of electrical and mechanical field quantities, and the characterisation of boarder areas reactions. For crystalline solid electrolytes and amorphous systems, realistic structural models will be developed and characterized with respect to their thermodynamic properties. The calculated structural properties can be used directly for the interpretation of the data from the characterization method platform and are included in the reference database.
