As part of her “summer tour”, the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, visited the Lichtenberg II high-performance computer at TU Darmstadt and learned about excellent and innovative energy research projects made possible by the supercomputer. Hessian Science Minister Angela Dorn also took part in the tour.

The Materials Science department was represented by Professor Bai-Xiang Xu, Head of the division Mechanics of Functional Materials. She gave insights into research on intelligent materials, which are of great importance for a sustainable energy transition, for example, to be able to substitute valuable metals and rare earths.
