Disputation by Nils Schäfer

We congratulate Dr Nils Schäfer on the very successful defence of his doctoral thesis on new superconducting coatings of structures for particle accelerators. Dr Schäfer has indeed achieved a scientific and technological breakthrough here, as he has succeeded in coating a high-quality superconductor on copper, something that no one has managed to do for decades. Nils has published several papers in relevant journals – and has travelled the world attending international conferences (Thailand and USA). Prof Dr Lützenkirchen-Hecht from the Department of Physics at the University of Wuppertal was a member of the examination board as an external examiner. Prof. Dr. Herbert De Gersem from our Electrical Engineering department was also a member of the examination board.
