“Connecting research – combining competencies”, was the motto of the day, when the Institute of Materials Science and Materials Valley e.V. invited resarchers to the Lichtwiese campus of TU Darmstadt on 17.11.2023. Around 100 participants from public and industrial materials research used the event to discuss current and upcoming work and make contacts for future collaborations.

The day started with 22 companies and research groups presenting their activities in a pitch session. Afterwards, the participants had ample opportunity for open exchange. The framework for this was provided by a marketplace with stands from the participating players. Interested parties were also able to take part in guided tours of the recently opened Additive Manufacturing Center.

Prof. Karsten Durst, Head of the Physical Metallurgy group at TU Darmstadt, was impressed: “We conduct research in order to gain knowledge for innovative applications. The dialogue with industry is invaluable in this respect. Today provided the ideal framework for this.”

Andreas Brumby from Materials Valley e.V. was very satisfied, too: “I am delighted with this very successful event. There was a lively exchange during which new material technology challenges and solutions were discussed intensively.”

Referring to TU Darmstadt's new exchange strategy, Prof. Matthias Oechsner, Vice President for Research at TU Darmstadt, described the Industry Day as “xchange par excellence”.

We, the Materials Valley e.V. and the Department of Materials Science, would like to thank all the helpers and participants. We are looking forward to the next Industry Day. Details have not yet been finalized, but will be announced in good time.

Materials Valley e.V.

The Materials Valley e.V. association was founded in spring 2002. The aim of the association is to raise the profile of the Rhine-Main region as a high-tech location for materials research and materials technology. This includes the expansion of existing knowledge networks as a basis for joint research and development. At the same time, Materials Valley e.V. wants to contribute to making the scientific and social conditions in the region as attractive as possible for highly qualified employees and students.
