Die beiden Humboldt-Forschungsstipendiatinnen Prof. Yan Zhang (l.) und Dr. Yu Ogura

In his function as a scout in the Henriette Hertz Program of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Rödel was able to bring two promising young female scientists to the TU Darmstadt this year.

Prof. Yan Zhang from the Central South University, Changsha (China), joined the division Nonmetallic-Inorganic Materials from June to August 2023 and will come again for another three months in 2024. She uses these stays in Darmstadt to conduct research on dislocation-modified properties of ceramics with regard to their application in piezocatalysis.

Dr. Yu Ogura from Waseda University, Tokyo (Japan), works in Prof. Rödel's research group from Aug. 2023 to Jan. 2024. During this time, she studies the plastic deformation of semiconductors.

With the Henriette Herz Scouting Programme, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation opens up an alternative, direct access to the renowned Humboldt Research Fellowship. It is intended to be a model for the direct recruitment of talents for Germany as a research location. Successful scientists in Germany can apply to become scouts and then bring up to three international collaborative partners of their choice directly to Germany with a Humboldt Research Fellowship.
