Influence of amorphous phase on coercivity in SmCo5-Cu nanocomposites

High-pressure torsion moulding of SmCo5-Cu powder mixtures leads to magnetically hardened nanocomposites. With increasing deformation, the microstructure is continuously refined, but the coercivity saturates after a certain degree and a partial amorphisation of the SmCo5 phase is observed. With further deformation and thus further refinement, the coercivity drops sharply. In this publication, micromagnetic simulations were performed based on the experimentally observed microstructures to investigate the influence of amorphisation in the SmCo5 phase.
