Thin film growth:
- Thin film growth by physical vapor deposition (PVD) techniques.
Surface treatments:
- Surface cleaning and recrystallisation by sputter-milling and annealing
- Gas adsorption (liquid nitrogen cooling possible)
- Electrochemistry cell: Electrochemical treatments under inert gas atmosphere with a direct sample transferred to the vacuum without having contact to the atmosphere.
Surface analysis techniques:
- Photoelectron Spectroscopy (PES)
- X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS)
- Low Energy Electron diffraction (LEED)
Embedding at BESSY II
To keep a high degree of flexibility the SoLIAS system is mounted on a moveable frame to make the attachment to and operation at various beam lines possible. At BESSY II mainly the PM-3 beam line with photon energies 20 … 1900 eV is used for PES experiments with varying excitation energy and thus varying probed depth. In addition surface sensitive x-ray absorption experiments (XAS) are possible.
