Horizon Europe MSCA SusMatEner – Phd8 Project

Sustainable absorbers and electrode materials for photo-supercapacitors

2025/10/01

This PhD project, part of the EU-funded MSCA Doctoral Network SusMatEner, investigates ternary chalcogenide- and perovskite-based photo-absorbers (ABX₃; A = Ca, Sr, Ba; B = Ti, Zr, Hf; X = S, Se) in combination with carbon-based storage electrodes for the development of integrated photo-supercapacitors. The research involves material synthesis, advanced spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization, and device-level integration to address stability, efficiency, and sustainability challenges.

The program is carried out in collaboration with Prof. Thierry Toupance’s group at the University of Bordeaux and includes an industry internship at Skeleton Technologies. In addition, the project engages with machine learning and life cycle assessment partners to ensure sustainable design.

SusMatEner is a Marie Curie Doctoral Network funded by the HORIZON EUROPE programme. At the origin of SusMatEner is the European Multifunctional Materials Institute EMMI, a network of European universities and research organizations.
