Investigating the redistribution of transport current in superconductors affected by paramagnetic and diamagnetic shields opens new possibilities for achieving strongly supercritical states and significantly reducing AC losses.

By applying potential theory and the critical state model, analytical results for different shielding geometries are obtained and supported by numerical solutions. The use of magnetostatic-electrostatic analogies makes it possible to consider paramagnetic shielding configurations of arbitrary shapes, which supports the improvement of lossless transport currents in superconductors. In addition, the penetration of magnetic flux into magnetically shielded bulk superconductors is investigated using the generalised London theory, where an improvement of the Bean-Livingston barrier is demonstrated.
