The hobit contact takes place on May 17th 2022, 10am – 5pm (ECST) in the karo5 (Karolinenplatz 5, Darmstadt). Of course, Materials Science is on board – literally: We present numerous exciting hands-on experiments, the highlight being a real hoverboard. Our students and scientists are looking forward to answering all your questions.

The Hoverboard

Superconducting pellets levitate above permanent magnets – and may even lift grown-up people. On a rail made of extremely strong NdFeB magnets (made by evico) a board containing superconducting material, cooled down with liquid nitrogen (-196°C), seems to withstand gravity. We dare you to hop on and experience the future.
