Benedikt Beckmann and Oliver Gutfleisch have co-authored a significant publication in Nature Communications, led by Joshua Levinsky from the University of Edinburgh and Graeme Blake from the University of Groningen. The study, titled "Giant Magnetocaloric Effect in a Rare-Earth-Free Layered Coordination Polymer at Liquid Hydrogen Temperatures”, presents the novel organic-inorganic hybrid material Co₄(OH)₆(SO₄)₂[enH₂]. This material exhibits an exceptional magnetocaloric effect, providing a rare-earth-free solution for hydrogen gas liquefaction. The findings offer an energy-efficient alternative to traditional refrigeration methods and mark a significant step forward in the development of sustainable magnetic refrigeration technologies.
