Z03
Structural characterization using 2D and 3D electron diffraction

Overview

In service project Z03, the microstructure obtained after synthesis and/or processing (grain size, morphology, chemical composition) is determined by means of imaging and elemental analysis. The analysis of the phase and orientation distribution coupled with elemental analysis allows the detection of new phases as well as disordered known phases. Crystal structures of new phases can be solved using three-dimensional electron diffraction on individual nanocrystals. Diffuse scattering is qualitatively described by comparison with simulations. A quantification of different dimensional defects should be developed.
