Perovskite-based high performance electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction: Fundamental insight into bulk and interface electronic structure towards materials design

Overview

Project B07 examines single crystal perovskite-based (BaTiO3 and SrTiO3) electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction in water splitting electrolyzers. The interaction of interfacial states, chemical reaction intermediates, and electronic structure of perovskite model systems and how they determine catalyst activity and stability is investigated on a fundamental level by advanced surface science methods. Fermi level engineering via targeted doping and defect chemistry is pursued to minimize losses due to kinetic over¬potentials and to enhance stability of the OER catalytically active surface phase. Project B07 is closely collaborating with the other catalytic projects receiving samples and providing analytic data.
