Fermi level engineering in (non)-degenerate semiconducting perovskite-type oxynitride photoabsorbers

Overview

Project A04 synthesizes perovskite-type oxynitrides AB(O,N)3 with band gaps and band edges, which are suitable for visible light absorption and solar water splitting. The anionic acceptor doping by N3– requires simultaneous activation of different charge compensation mechanisms. Hence, a series of oxynitrides actively using one charge compensation mechanism is systematically prepared and analyzed. The effect of concentration and main quantum number of reduced B-site cations on the elec¬tronic band structure is analyzed to support a uniform description together with other projects. Finally, improved photocatalytic conversion based on an engineering of the Fermi level position shall be achieved.
