Girls' Day 2024: Immersing into the World of Materials

Under the motto “Immerse yourself in the world of materials”, the Institute of Materials Science at TU Darmstadt opened its doors on 25.04.2024 as part of this year's Girls' Day.

17 girls followed the invitation to Lichtwiese. In a diverse program they were able to get an idea of the professions related to materials research. Not only did they find out what to expect if they decide to study Materials Science, they also learned about apprenticeships in the laboratory and workshop areas of the research facility.

In addition to taking a look behind the otherwise closed laboratory and workshop doors, the participants were also allowed to conduct their own experiments and ride the superconductor hoverboard at the end of the day. This was a fun way for them to learn how materials science permeates and improves our everyday lives.

The institute's outreach team would like to thank all participants and contributors and is already looking forward to Girls' Day 2025!
