ISMES XIII
ISMES XIII 2026 Successfully Held at Darmstädter Haus
The 13th International School for Materials for Energy and Sustainability (ISMES XIII) was successfully held from 1–7 June 2026 at Darmstädter Haus in Hirschegg. The event brought together students, early-career researchers, established scientists, and industry experts from around the world to explore the latest advances in sustainable energy technologies, materials innovation, and circular economy solutions.
Over the course of the week, participants engaged in an intensive and highly interactive program featuring keynote lectures, poster presentations, group discussions, teamwork activities, and an excursion. The scientific program covered a broad range of topics at the forefront of sustainability research, including climate change mitigation, decarbonization strategies, renewable energy technologies, batteries, fuel cells, solar energy conversion, biomass utilization, recycling, circular economy approaches, and sustainable materials development.
A distinctive feature of ISMES XIII was its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange. Internationally recognized experts from academia and industry shared their latest research achievements and perspectives, fostering stimulating discussions and inspiring participants to address global sustainability challenges through innovative thinking.
One of the highlights of the school was the Challenge Project, where participants worked in mulinternational teams to develop creative solutions to real-world energy and sustainability problems. This collaborative exercise encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and cross-disciplinary communication. The poster sessions further provided an excellent platform for young researchers to showcase their work, receive valuable feedback, and build new scientific connections.
Set in a beautiful mountain environment, Darmstädter Haus offered an ideal setting for scientific exchange, networking, and community building. The combination of outstanding scientific content, interactive learning opportunities, and informal discussions created a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere throughout the week.
ISMES XIII once again demonstrated the importance of international cooperation in advancing sustainable energy and materials research. By connecting emerging researchers with leading experts, the school continues to foster the next generation of scientists and engineers dedicated to building a more sustainable future.
