Travel to Darmstadt

Darmstadt belongs to the Rhine-Main metropolitan region.

Frankfurt am Main is only about 30 kilometres away and the cities Mainz, Wiesbaden, Heidelberg as well as Mannheim are located closeby.

Due to its convenient location in the center of Germany, you can reach Darmstadt easily and quickly by car, train or plane.

The Department of Materials Modelling is located on the Lichtwiese Campus in building L1 I 08 on the premises of the combined heat and power plant and opposite the ETA factory.

Directions to Darmstadt

Motorway A5 (Frankfurt–Basel) or motorway A67 (Köln–Mannheim)

You can reach Darmstadt from the A5 or A67 via the Darmstädter Kreuz, exit Darmstadt Stadtmitte. In Darmstadt follow the signs TU-Lichtwiese. At Lichtwiese follow the road which turns left at the ETA factory. Immediately after the next right-hand bend you will find our building on the right-hand side with the designation L1 I 08.

Depending on the time of day, the travel by car through the city centre takes between 15 and 20 minutes.

Please note: There is a charge for parking throughout the campus area between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. (0.50 Euro/hour or 2.50 Euro/day ticket).

From Frankfurt central station

Take the Odenwaldbahn SE 65 in the direction Erbach (Odw.) of VIAS GmbH and get off at the stop TU-Lichtwiese. Follow the footpath along the experimental halls of the Department of Mechanical Engineering until you see the big red cogwheel on the right hand side. It is located directly in front of the entrance to the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Keep walking along the Otto-Bernd-Straße. You will find our building on the left side before the left-hand bend opposite the allotment garden.

From Darmstadt main station

Bus line K or KU to the terminal station TU-Lichtwiese.

The total travel time is about 30 minutes.

The buses leave every 15 minutes.

At the final stop you will find the lecture hall and media centre (HMZ). Follow the footpath along Franziska-Braun-Straße towards the building of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (in front of the entrance you will see a big red cogwheel). Cross the street here and follow the footpath along Otto-Bernd-Straße to the left. You will then find our building on the left side before the left-hand bend opposite the allotment garden.

There is a direct bus connection (Airliner) between the airport Frankfurt/Main and Darmstadt central station.

The Airliner departs from Frankfurt/Main Airport:

Terminal 1, area B, bus stop 14, bus stop is opposite the exits

Right in front of Terminal 2. The bus stop is on the side of the exits.

The journey time is about 30 minutes. The line is serviced 30 – 40 times a day in a close rhythm.
