Fracture toughness KIC for bend bars

Fracture toughness KIC for bend bars

  • Measurement of the fracture toughness at a defined incipient crack inside a flexural specimen with the geometry 25mm x 4mm x 3mm according to DIN 51109. In conformity with DIN at least five samples are required. The experimental procedure is not successful in the same range for all materials (SEPB-method).
  • Measurement of the fracture toughness of sharp notches according to a international cooperative test. Here a notch with a radius of around 10µm is cutted into the bend bar (SEVNB-method), at least five samples are recommended.
  • Measurement of the fracture toughness in ceramics according to the SCF-method (international cooperative test) and own modification, at least five samples are recommended.
