From April 15 to 17, a group of 15 students and their teachers from the Hector-Seminar in Heidelberg visited the materials science laboratories at TU Darmstadt.

This year, the Institute of Materials Science is a new partner of the Hector Seminar and is opening its laboratory doors to give participants a closer look at academic work, research, university life, and the Materials Science program.

Under the guidance of Dr. Marc Widenmeyer, the students attended the lecture on Sustainable Materials Production and Processing and conducted experiments themselves. They gained insights into plasma-assisted pyrolytic recycling of plastic waste as well as into analytical methods for characterizing the new materials produced in the process.

Over the course of three eventful days, the group explored the field of materials science together and gained firsthand insight into sustainability-related research at TU Darmstadt.
